6,512 feet above sea level. 300 days of sunshine a year. Hardy miners and pioneers flocked to Durango in the 1880’s to haul precious metals from the Silverton mine along the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. While today the rails to the mine carry only tourists, a new breed of settler is coming to Durango when the Catan® World Championship (or CWC) arrives on September 23-25, 2016 to determine the best Catan player in the world.
Contestants will stay at the historic Strater Hotel which also houses the Henry Strater Theater, a theater that has been performing continuously since 1962 and still going strong! The 2016 tournament will actually take place in this theater and will be broadcast live around the world on the internet.
